The classic Chinese explanation of acupuncture is that channels of energy, known as meridians or meridian channels, flow through our body as well as on its surface affecting the energy of the internal organs. It is like a river flowing throughout the body irrigating and nourishing the tissue. When the flow of energy is broken, or there is a blockage of energy, it acts like a dam which causes flooding of the other tissues, depriving them of oxygen.
The meridians can be easily and quickly regulated by painlessly inserting fine needles into the parts of the body known as acupuncture points. This unblocks the energy pathways and the regular flow of the meridian channels is restored. Acupuncture treatments, which usually last from 20 to 40 minutes, can assist the body’s organs in digestion disorders, absorption and production of energy and even affect the natural painkillers produced in our brain, called endorphins. They are much stronger than morphine and do not cause any of its negative side effects. Therefore, acupuncture can actively ease pain in cases of arthritis of the knee, lumbago, cervical pain as well as headaches and migraines. A list of conditions that acupuncture can be used to treat follows:
Allergic rhinitis, psoriasis, allergic bronchial asthma, eczema, acute and chronic gastritis, neurodermatitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, herpes zoster and post herpes neuralgia, colitis, genital herpes, constipation and diarrhoea, acne, headaches, dysmenorrhea, migraines, menstrual irregularities, trigeminal neuralgia, amenorrhea, paralysis of the facial nerve, climacteric syndrome, Meniere Syndrome, spermatorrhoea or male fertility problems, vertigo – tinnitus, sexual frigidity, hearing impairment, infertility, nocturnal enuresis in children, premature ejaculation, cervicobrachial Syndrome, melancholia – insomnia, depression, torticollis, phobias, lumbago, anxiety, sciatica, hypertension, osteoarthritis, obesity, tenosynovitis, smoking cessation, myalgia, alcoholism, weight loss, shoulder and elbow pain.
The modern scientific belief is that by painlessly inserting needles into the acupuncture points the nervous system is stimulated, and in turn releases natural chemical substances in the muscles, spine and the brain. These substances will either reduce the feeling of pain or will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the internal self-regulating mechanism of the body. (Homeostasis).
The improved energy and biochemical balance of the body achieved through acupuncture stimulates the body’s natural healing ability and promotes body and spiritual wellness. The results of acupuncture therapy are phenomenal and do not have the side-effects of anti-inflammatory medicine (gastrointestinal bleeding gastric, kidney and heart problems, bone marrow cell disorders etc.) According to a study that was published in the BMJ magazine, just 13% of conventional western medicine is beneficial for patients, 10% is non-effective and 46% has undetermined effectiveness.
This is a specialized acupuncture method. The skull (cranium) is an acupuncture microsystem in which all organs and systems of the human body are represented. It is an ideal treatment for strokes, lumbago, sciatica and cervical pains.
This is another specialized acupuncture method that employs different application points from conventional acupuncture, and in some cases better results can be achieved.
Japanese Acupuncture – Ryodoraku
With this method, after examination and sampling at certain points of the meridians, the data is processed with specialized software and, depending on the results, acupuncture treatment is performed where needed. This technique is used in Japan for chronic and acute conditions with optimum results after 5-6 sessions.
This therapy is performed with a specialised American scanner on points of the ear without the use of needles. 4-5 sessions are needed.
